Sea Otter Throw Blanket

This throw blanket measures 38” x 48” and is truly unique, made from four extra-large curly sea otter pelts. While it is just as soft as other sea otter fur, the curly texture makes it even more unique. I aimed to create something different with this blanket, and it turned out exactly as I envisioned.
I wanted this to have the coziness and lushness of a fluffy comforter, so I filled this blanket with extra fluff between the sea otter fur and the velvet backing, making it about 2 1/2 inches thick. The blanket is backed with custom velvet fabric in a seal skin print, which I replicated using one of the seal skin pelts we harvested to create the pattern.
I did my best to capture its beauty in the photos, but they truly don’t do it justice. I want to note that this design is different from what I’ve made previously, as it features quilt stitching and puffy sections, which is intentional. This detail keeps the filling from shifting and creates a uniform pattern that looks balanced.
